Stevens-Johnson syndrome, with ocular complications and unfavourable outcome in Marieta Dumitrache by Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Stevens-Johnson syndrome, with ocular complications and unfavourable outcome in Marieta Dumitrache by Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is an acute, rare but serious vasculitis, triggered by a type III hypersensitivity reaction, clinically manifested by a maculo-vesiculo-bullous erythematous eruption and hemorrhagic skin-mucosal erosions, accompanied by rapidly progressive complications. SJS is an important cause of ocular morbidity. The ocular manifestations in SJS are multiple, variable, some very serious, affecting the eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea (infiltrate, corneal ulcerations, with or without corneal perforation), possibly accompanied by ocular complications and sequelae (cicatricial eyelid lesions, corneal perforation, endophthalmitis, corneal leukoma, corneal neovascularization, vision loss). We present the case of a female patient with SJS with ocular manifestations, with acute onset, after...

Evolutionary clinical-therapeutic study of ocular manifestations in encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis by Marieta Dumitrache in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Evolutionary clinical-therapeutic study of ocular manifestations in encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis by Marieta Dumitrache in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a sporadic dysembryopathy, a neuro-oculo-cutaneous phakomatosis, which is characterized by capillary, facial, ocular and cerebral malformations, with the presence of congenital vascular mesodermal hamartomas. In its full form, SWS presents: facial angioma, leptomeningeal hemangioma, and ocular abnormalities with glaucoma and choroidal hemangioma. The treatment of facial angioma has questionable results, but early laser treatment could reduce the partial progression of the angioma. Leptomeningial hemangioma is accompanied by early epilepsy, controlled in 40% of cases with anticonvulsant treatment and severe neurological manifestations. Ocular manifestations in SWS are ipsilateral to the facial angioma, they are located in the eyelid, conj...

Co-infection of Hepatitis B among HIV-infected patients: A cross-sectional study from A University Teaching hospital in Anambra State, Nigeria by Iheanyi O Okonko in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Co-infection of Hepatitis B among HIV-infected patients: A cross-sectional study from A University Teaching hospital in Anambra State, Nigeria by Iheanyi O Okonko in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences  Abstract Hepatitis B and HIV infections are significant public health problems in sub-Saharan Africa, and research suggests that co-infected individuals with either HBV or HIV experience a higher rate of HIV progression. This study aimed at investigating possible HBV coinfection in relation to the sociodemographic traits of HIV-infected individuals, attending the HIV clinic at a University Teaching Hospital in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. Two hundred and fifty-five (255) HIV-infected individuals gave consent to participate in the study. Blood samples (about 5ml) were aseptically collected and tested for HBV using Monolisa HBsAg ULTRA kit. CD4 counts were measured using the Partec CyFlow. Plasma viral loads (PVL) were also determined usi...

Numerous Ectopic Sebaceous Glands in the Esophagus; A Case Report and Assumption regarding Pathogenesis by Hideki Mori in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

Numerous Ectopic Sebaceous Glands in the Esophagus A Case Report and Assumption regarding Pathogenesis by Hideki Mori in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract It is known that ectopic sebaceous glands (ESG) occur infrequently in the esophagus. ESG with numerous lesions of the esophagus are extremely rare. An endoscopic examination of a 79-year-old man revealed the presence of ESG more than 100 tiny lesions scattered throughout the esophagus. Immunohistochemically, keratin 14 (cytokeratin K14), ER (estrogen receptor) and Ki67 were predominantly expressed in the basal cells of ESG. Meanwhile, GATA3 (zinc finger transcription factor) was recognized mainly in the sebocytes of them. Clinicopathology of ESG and an assumption regarding pathogenesis of ESG, particularly in view of acquired metaplasia versus congenital misplacement is stated. Introduction Sebaceous gland is closely related to the hair follicle, forming the pilosebaceous ap...

Lymphomatous leptomeningitis by F. Chait in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

Lymphomatous leptomeningitis by F. Chait in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.  Abstract Keywords : Lymphomatous leptomeningitis, MRI. Clinical image Lymphomatous leptomeningitis, refers to the spread of malignant cells into the CSF space by haematogenous spread. The clinical presentation is varied. Headache is the main symptom. MRI shows a leptomeningeal thickening with intermediate signal on T2 ( ‘’A ‘’ white arrow) , Flair and T1, strongly enhanced after injection of gadolinium ( “B-C ‘’white arrow). It is secondary to leptomeningeal metastatic deposits by dissemination of cancer cells along the meningeal surface. Postcontrast T1WI is the diagnostic sequence of choice in Lymphomatous leptomeningitis. Declaration of Interests : The authors declare that they have no competing interests.

A Case of a child with Legg- Calvé- Perthes disease by Dr Paul Mutani in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

A Case of a child with Legg- Calvé- Perthes disease  by Dr Paul Mutani in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract Legg- Calvé- Perthes Disease (LCPD) can either be a unilateral or bilateral necrosis of the head of femur, and affects more male children and adolescents less than 15 years. The incidence of LCPD ranges from 0.4/100,000 to 29.0/ 100,000 children and has multifactorial aetiology where environmental, metabolic or genetic causes may come into play. It usually presents with hip pain and treatment could be surgical or non-surgical. We present a case of LCPD in a 14 years old girl participating in a vaccine trial evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of HPV vaccines (DoRIS trial). The girl reported right hip pain which was associated with limping and limb shortening 15 months after completing the vaccination schedule. Pelvis x ray findings were suggestive of LCPD. She was treated conservatively with vertical compensation ...

Toxicological effects of Fluconazole on chick embryo: A literature review by Rao Zahid Sattar in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

Toxicological effects of Fluconazole on chick embryo: A literature review   by Rao Zahid Sattar in  Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract Toxicology is the study of the dangerous effects of organic substances on living organisms. Fluconazole given orally to parrots retains plasma concentrations above a small number of normal yeast strains, according to research. When combined with fluconazole, the Ascidian Embryo Teratogenicity test provides a different invertebrate model for evaluating the developmental effects of ethanol exposure. Fluconazole (Diflucan) is an oral antifungal drug commonly used to treat vulvovaginal candidiasis. Over the past two decades, the prevalence of fungal-related blood infections has increased by more than 200 percent, making it the third most common type of blood disease. Embryotoxicity is determined by giving a small dose before or after embryos are implanted in the uterus. Finally, Galleri...
