Persistent knee pain following unicompartmental knee arthroplasty despite no identified cause and proactive patient use of standard and alternative therapies by Gregor Reid in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Persistent knee pain following unicompartmental knee arthroplasty despite no identified cause and proactive patient use of standard and alternative therapies by  Gregor Reid in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences  Abstract A 63-year-old fit male reported medial knee pain of 6/10 following a season of indoor soccer in 2018. Despite cessation of soccer, the pain continued and in October 2019 an X-ray showed moderate osteoarthritis in the medial compartment. In 2020, MRI showed a tear in the medical meniscal body. Arthroscopy was performed with partial medial meniscectomy and debridement of the medial compartment with the aim of reducing the pain. However, neuropathy arose at the intrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve, and this was not offset by recommended treatment using Durolane injection, physiotherapy and local use of CBD and pregabalin, gabapentin triple cream. Due to the medial bone on bone contact, it was decided that a un...

Numerous Ectopic Sebaceous Glands in the Esophagus; A Case Report and Assumption regarding Pathogenesis by Hideki Mori in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

Numerous Ectopic Sebaceous Glands in the Esophagus A Case Report and Assumption regarding Pathogenesis by Hideki Mori in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract It is known that ectopic sebaceous glands (ESG) occur infrequently in the esophagus. ESG with numerous lesions of the esophagus are extremely rare. An endoscopic examination of a 79-year-old man revealed the presence of ESG more than 100 tiny lesions scattered throughout the esophagus. Immunohistochemically, keratin 14 (cytokeratin K14), ER (estrogen receptor) and Ki67 were predominantly expressed in the basal cells of ESG. Meanwhile, GATA3 (zinc finger transcription factor) was recognized mainly in the sebocytes of them. Clinicopathology of ESG and an assumption regarding pathogenesis of ESG, particularly in view of acquired metaplasia versus congenital misplacement is stated. Introduction Sebaceous gland is closely related to the hair follicle, forming the pilosebaceous ap...

A Case of a child with Legg- Calvé- Perthes disease by Dr Paul Mutani in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

A Case of a child with Legg- CalvĂ©- Perthes disease  by Dr Paul Mutani in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract Legg- CalvĂ©- Perthes Disease (LCPD) can either be a unilateral or bilateral necrosis of the head of femur, and affects more male children and adolescents less than 15 years. The incidence of LCPD ranges from 0.4/100,000 to 29.0/ 100,000 children and has multifactorial aetiology where environmental, metabolic or genetic causes may come into play. It usually presents with hip pain and treatment could be surgical or non-surgical. We present a case of LCPD in a 14 years old girl participating in a vaccine trial evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of HPV vaccines (DoRIS trial). The girl reported right hip pain which was associated with limping and limb shortening 15 months after completing the vaccination schedule. Pelvis x ray findings were suggestive of LCPD. She was treated conservatively with vertical compensation ...

Toxicological effects of Fluconazole on chick embryo: A literature review by Rao Zahid Sattar in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

Toxicological effects of Fluconazole on chick embryo: A literature review   by Rao Zahid Sattar in  Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract Toxicology is the study of the dangerous effects of organic substances on living organisms. Fluconazole given orally to parrots retains plasma concentrations above a small number of normal yeast strains, according to research. When combined with fluconazole, the Ascidian Embryo Teratogenicity test provides a different invertebrate model for evaluating the developmental effects of ethanol exposure. Fluconazole (Diflucan) is an oral antifungal drug commonly used to treat vulvovaginal candidiasis. Over the past two decades, the prevalence of fungal-related blood infections has increased by more than 200 percent, making it the third most common type of blood disease. Embryotoxicity is determined by giving a small dose before or after embryos are implanted in the uterus. Finally, Galleri...

An typical case of Acute Posterior Multifocal placoid pigment Epitheliopathy with intraretinal fluid by Renato Correia Barbosa in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

An typical case of Acute Posterior Multifocal placoid pigment Epitheliopathy with intraretinal fluid by Renato Correia Barbosa in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy is a rare inflammatory chorioretinopathy, classified as a white dot syndrome. It usually presents in young adults and results in ischemia of the choriocapillaris leading to atrophy of the external retinal layers, including the retinal pigment epithelium. This report describes an atypical case of this disease with the presence of intraretinal fluid. A 20-year-old male patient presented with complaints of sudden, severe left eye vision loss. He did not report any systemic symptoms, and his medical history was unremarkable. Slit-lamp examination and fundoscopy revealed a normal anterior segment, with yellow placoid lesions on his macula and near periphery. He underwent a spectral-domain optical coherence tomography ...

Impact of glucocorticoid replacement therapy on bone mineral density in adults with Addison disease by Khouloud Boujelben in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences.

Impact of glucocorticoid replacement therapy on bone mineral density in adults with Addison disease by Khouloud Boujelben in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences. Abstract Introduction: Addison disease (AD) is associated with high risk of decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and osteoporosis. Causes are complex, including lifelong glucocorticoid replacement therapy. The aim of our study is to assess the influence of glucorticoid replacement therapy on BMD among patients with AD and determine predictive factors of low BMD. Methods: A descriptive and analytical, cross- sectional study was conducted at the department of endocrinology-diabetology at Hedi Chaker Academic Hospital, including 50 patients with AD who had been receiving glucocorticoid replacement therapy for at least 5 years. Serum levels of bone turnover markers (calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), vitamin D and parathyroid hormone (PTH)) were measured.BMD was determine...
